The Masai Mara Game Reserve, or "The Mara," derives its name from the Masai word for "mottled," reflecting its varied landscape. Spanning 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) at elevations of 1,500-2,170 meters, it features grasslands, riverine forests, and acacia trees. Located about 270 km from Nairobi, it is accessible by a 5-6 hour drive or a short flight. Renowned for its wildlife, including the "Big Five" and the "Big Nine," the Mara is famous for the Annual Migration and offers exceptional year-round wildlife viewing.
