Arijiju’s owner, raised in the bush, built the house to connect his London-based family with their heritage and foster a love for nature. Committed to conservation, Arijiju is sustainably constructed, with its tourism model supporting local conservation efforts.
Nestled into the bedrock, Arijiju blends seamlessly into the landscape, even from the air. Its location, with views of Mount Kenya, was chosen to provide each bedroom with a stunning sunrise light display. Situated in the remote Laikipia region, the house uses local timber and stone to minimize environmental impact. Combining contemporary and traditional elements, its design is inspired by Ethiopian monasteries and features a living roof, roughhewn stone walls, and includes five spacious suites, a cinema room, study, living room, and dining room.
