About Maasai Mara Reserve

The Masai Mara Game Reserve, or "The Mara," is named for its mottled landscape and spans 1,510 sq km (580 sq miles) at elevations of 1,500-2,170 meters. It features grasslands, riverine forests, and acacia trees, and is about 270 km from Nairobi, accessible by a 5-6 hour drive or a short flight. The reserve is famous for its wildlife, including the "Big Five" (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, rhinoceros) and the "Big Nine" (cheetah, zebra, giraffe, hippo), and is renowned for the Annual Migration, offering year-round wildlife spectacles.
